Dairy herd average

My sister worked on a kid's summer camp in Ohio 2 years ago, loads of kids from poor areas in Cleveland were sent to it, she was shocked at some of the stories the children told her and she had to write some reports to the police about child abuse etc. these kids were facing at their home with alcoholic/druggie parents.

Overall, she did not liek Ohio at all, no offence to you but she was just shocked at the state of some of the towns. Why is there such a meth problem over there?

Because it is easy to make, traffic, etc. also because of people prefer not to work and live off the government and tax payers. There is at least one heroin death a week in my county. It's ridiculous what has happened over the past ten years. There used to be a lot of good factory jobs around here as well, but the factories have been shut down. Coal is a big thing south east of here and those have been shut down. If there are no jobs, and the government "takes care of you", drugs are the result.

It is quite disappointing knowing this is the future in progress.

Pity

I've seen wooded swampland go for $4,500. We've bought tillable land for $5,000-$7,000. Most I've seen is $12,000, but that's country club pricing. Why you asking? Thinking of moving?

Yes, I have been considering moving and probably will one day. Land is too expensive in the Uk for me. I would either go to Australia, USA or Canada. A grass based dairy in USA would be the first choice for me.

West Virginia is dirt cheap. Though it is a bit of different landscape than what you are used to. Mountains and trees. Not to mention real backwoods folks. Remember, each state in the US is different.

Personally Australia is to hot for me and Canada is to much "Canada" for me. :)

we average about 3700 litres at 5.8% fat and 4.3% protein

Just think how much more you could get if you bothered firing the parlour up in the afternoon as well!

Were down to about 1.1kg ms at the moment and I feel I'm wasting my time milking 2x day. What are yours doing on a daily basis at the moment?

Our annual average is about 4500 @ 5.8 and 3.8.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
