Got a spring tine? Or disc Harrow?
no discs these days, got an 8ft twose vibratiller .

ph's took over from them but going in direct is hard on them .
anything other than a proper drill i might as well plough and broadcast seed with fert like i normally do .
i should leave the headlands and an acre or 2 ,let it grow long and fence it in with the redstart.

I always reckon it Needs a reasonable few days undisturbed ,to work through the plants system, (translocation) down into the roots to kill the target plant completely.
No idea how the timing should be with Direct drilling though.

Iirc the last time i saw James was when i pulled his Massey (and him ) out of a ditch when he got to close with the trimmer, :ROFLMAO:. Was a few yrs ago now mind.

When drilling summer forage crops do you all put slug pellets on as routine or do you have little bother with slugs.

I DD’ed into sprayed off grass last week and applied 2kg/ac of pellets on Friday. When I checked again on Sunday, they’d all gone, so clearly LOTS of slugs about. Another 2kg applied yesterday, and some of those have already gone too.

My agronomist wasn’t surprised. He said that, on most of the wheat crops he’s walking currently, he’s seeing 3 slugs on each ear.

Mild winters have led to more surviving.

Needless to say I am a brassica novice.
This was pp sprayed off and dd with a Horsch drill with Clampsaver 2 a month ago. 4 acres. Not sure what’s gone wrong. Has had lime but no fert (luckily). It did come up in the gateway and then disappeared as you go into the field. A friend says it possibly went in too deep. For plan B I’ve got some redstart but reluctant to use the same drill.
Thoughts please.

Doesn’t look too deep drilled to me could be flea beetle or slugs, a lot about this year.

what has the weather been like dry or wet or bit of both?

if it was dry > drying it could be poor seed / seedling to soil contact if its been moisty / wet could be slugs,
plus if its cloddy sort of soil condition it could be slugs

or if the weathers been perfect it could be rabbits .....or slugs or both or all of the above :sneaky::oops:

To be fair we have had good growing weather although it was dry when it was drilled. I didn't roll it because I didn't think that it would make a difference being quite hard. Soil isn't clay type. If you look close you can see some of the rape has been eaten down. It just surprised me that the whole field has been affected. Reading @nielo's post has got me thinking that there could be something lurking.
