We have the misfortune to be next door to a Council recycling centre. The people who run it are interested only in the stuff that they can scavenge and put on e bay.
There are bunkers for soil, hardcore and electricals, fair enough, but you cannot leave furniture that has no fire resistant tag, and you cannot go in with a commercial vehicle, so consequently the stuff that they are allowed to turn away ends up in nearby ditches and gateways.
Latest thing I had to move was about 100 vinyl seat covers, commercial waste. There was some household junk mixed in, and fair play, Council environmental enforcement are coming tomorrow to have a look, because there is an addressed letter in there. We shall see.
But as above, if you have tried to do the right thing then get turned away by some chippy jobsworth in a dayglo vest, it is not entirely surprising that people chuck it out on the way home.

The issue is these sites are not run by the council, they're contacted out to a 3rd party company.

Naturally the company are seeking to make a profit, so provide the absolute bare minimum service while attempting to maximise revenue.

Yes, really. The only bit of that I agree with is tipping the van on its side, that's what I would have done most likely.

However, neither of those scroats were showing any aggression or behaving in a threatening way. Where was the justification for violence?

Then we've got the moron in the telehandler. He clearly wasn't in control of either himself or his machine. He very nearly tipped that van on top of another human being, which would undoubtedly have killed him or at least caused life threatening injuries. A scroat he may be, but he's also someone's brother, someone's son and very probably someone's dad.

Are we really suggesting that a little boy or little girl should be growing up without their dad because of a bit of glorified littering?

Like anyone who owns any land, and I own lots of little bits all over the country, I too have had a bit of fly tipping on my property. I've had bits of plant stolen. I've had vandalism and offices broken into.

None of it is anything more than mildly inconvenient though, and I'm certainly not about to take another person's life over something so bloody trivial.

Perspective. Get some.

The funny thing about perspective is that it changes depending where you stand.

As a man of considerable means and several income streams I can see how a bit of fly tipping or plant theft could be dismissed as mild inconvenience.

My business is still relatively young. Theft of my ag plant would have devastating effects on profitably. Given that it's currently my sole source of income, a fall in profits would have direct and significant negative effects on my family.

A thief targeting me would be taking food out of the mouth of my son. Give that, I'm sure you can understand my stance.

Were it legal, I wouldn't hesitate to inflict life changing or fatal injury on a thief I caught in the act. If their children grow up without a father as a result, then that is due to the actions of the thief. I'd be more bothered about the cull ewe I had to despatch yesterday.

Unfortunately, it's not legal. So I will take what precautions I can and how they target someone else.
