Decisions decisions....

Half of the farm is going.

After a casual chat over a cup of tea with step maw one morning 5 weeks ago, which ended with her confirming that she would indeed hog the farm house and wasn't concerned if it stopped me from getting on and running the farm, even though they wouldn't be fit to cope with it as it is, because she liked living there, I knew I wasn't going to hang about waiting for them to snuff it so I could move down. I got home that evening to find a message from a friend in Iceland saying that her friend was still looking for a worker over the winter. (I was supposed to have contacted them when I was near their place but never got around to it) I contacted them and said I would consider it.
Seen the land lord a week or so later and told him to start planning what he would do with the place if I quit, as it wasn't worth driving up and down the road to do anymore as the local (30 miles away) butchery/packing place had shut down and there was no way I was going to be going to the mart to give my stuff away, had no intention to build yet more sheds on his ground to set up my own place when there was plenty space at the fathers place.
He's going to run it himself, I said I'd quite happily do work for him and he seemed quite happy.
I contacted the folks in Iceland and took the job.
Tomorrow I'll be left with 4 cows and a runty bullock and 30 mental hebrideans and a collie.
Keeping on two smaller blocks till this time next year in the hope that the old couple find a house in town, then it'll be a fight over the house with someone else, if they win then I'll quit completely. Neighbour is going to feed my cows and sheep over winter in exchange for me putting up a shed for him next summer.
So in two weeks time my friend moves into my house over winter to stop it freezing up and to protect the precious stuff in my sheds (you'll need a hiab if you're planning on robbing it) he's delighted as it's straight out the door and onto the ground where he shoots, and I'm heading north to the highest farm in Iceland, 42 kilometres to the nearest neighbours (they do tours to glaciers and have a small hotel, so there will be people around) where I'll be feeding sheep, cutting them up and loading them into the smokehouse and doing road recovery work hauling cars out of snowdrifts and trying to catch a tan in the two and a half hours of winter gloom...

WOO HOO!!!!
