Now we've left the EU, we have the opportunity to shape English agricultural policy to suit our needs, wants and priorities. Our future policy will help farmers continue to provide a supply of healthy, home-grown produce to high environmental and animal welfare standards.

Nature-friendly farming is fundamental to our new approach. The Environmental Land Management (ELM) scheme will be the cornerstone of our new agricultural policy. It’s founded on the principle of “public money for public goods”.

We’ll also offer financial assistance to enable farmers, foresters, and growers to invest in equipment, technology, and infrastructure to improve their productivity, manage the environment sustainably, and deliver other public goods.

We know farmers need stability, certainty and a smooth transition to a new system, so we will not switch off Direct Payments overnight. We’ll make the changes over a seven-year period so that changes can be introduced gradually.

The following webinars will be taking place:

Wednesday June 10 at 10:30-11:15

Minister of Agriculture Victoria Prentis MP provides an update on the Government's support for farmers in light of C19 and how it will work with industry to recover and prosper.

James LePage, Natural England - Adapting to ELM

If you have any comments or questions about farming policy or points raised in either of the above webinars, please leave a message or speak to our team via live chat: https://meetings.vonage.com/204165066

Food Heroes: Farmer Will

Thousands of food heroes are working tirelessly to put food on our plates. This is farmer Will from Applegarth Farm in Hampshire talking about how he’s adjusted to new ways of working, including using Nextdoor to reach out to his local community. Farmer Will now delivers nearly 100 food boxes a day and he has also started a fundraiser to send free food hampers to local NHS workers. Thank you, Will!
