DFT Van survey

My wife has just received a reminder for a van survey from the Department for transport, does anyone know if this is compulsory? my thoughts are that it's nobody's business what we do with our van

She must be using it for commercial purposes to be on their radar, so, yes it is compulsory.

It's a fairly daunting form, but if you read through the notes, it's usually a doddle to complete.

The van is used mostly as daily transport to her work but being a van it's registered and as a commercial vehicle and we have business insurance on it, so I suppose the registration flags this up to them, it's the first time in 20 years of van ownership we have been asked for this.

I used to get them quite regularly with the trucks but often wondered if that was because I filled them in

If it doesn't say on the form that it is legally compulsory, one suspects it isn't. I ignore all the surveys Defra send me.

One may be a little cynical, but how does a cash-strapped country afford the civil servants to generate cr*P like this?? Then there`ll be a whole host of "important" people on humongous salaries compiling figures and statistics.....( No doubt a very self satisfied IMPORTANT group of high salaried members of the civil service - "invaluable" to the country!!)
Hope I don`t seem angry....
