5.5 tonne hitachi digger.
Looking for a bit of help...
Lift and dipper arm crowd have gone really slow, and will then jerk and start moving properly. Everything else is working fine and seems to still have plenty of power although I didn't have anywhere to test it very well.

If the battery is bad, it's possible the alternator isn't able to supply enough power for all of the solenoids on its own. That's assuming the controls are electro hydraulic. Just a possibility?

What is the tracking like? Does one track go really slow when it’s playing up?
Most excavators have 2 pumps supplying various parts but it is usually 1 pumps per track motor hence the above question.
Changing oil & filters won’t make any difference, oil is filtered on the return to the tank

No breaker lines.
Tracking is fine it's only the lift ram and the dipper ram that are affected and only in one direction. Sometimes it's only slow for a couple of seconds and then kicks in with a jerk and works fine until you stop that movement

Changed the battery and it appears to be working ok. Will run it for a bit and see what happens

The alternator died turned out to be a massive pain in the backside to replace as the regulator was in a different place. Ended up rewiring a new one in and making it fit in the gap
