Disrupting CCTV

Bit off topic and one for the technically minded here -

Generally speaking would a high power IR Illuminator if correctly aimed and focused flood a cctv camera with enough light to potentially render any images useless (in both day and night)? We have acquired a nuisance neighbour...

I think it is an offence to use cctv for such purposes, report it to local police even if only off record initially.

In theory, if close enough and high powered (say 100w or more) then yes it would.

We have reported it several times, seems to be a bit of a loophole as its domestic property

So in scientific terms if an IR source is powerful and focused enough it should leave a white / distorted image whether its day or night?

It would probably work at night (be like looking into headlights) but not during day time. Decent cameras have IR filters for colour daylight (IR can cause poor daylight images without a filter).

Is it mounted on an adjoining wall? Could you put a screen up on your side of the boundary to block it's vision of your property? Failing that then shoot the camera

OT... My OH has a friend who's neighbour built an extension at the rear of their semidetached house but with a window facing directly on to their property, I would be boarding that fudger up as well!

ha ha, have had a good think over many of these options already... is right on the edge of his property, one of those remote jobs that turns within a sphere. I do have some tree's planted but no patience and they will have to get to same height to screen the whole garden given how the land lies!
