DIY 3-way draft

Weaning a few tomorrow. Needing to do a 3 way split (ewes - fat lambs- replacement ewe lambs). I only have a standard 2 way gate. Is there any way I can temporarily modify it or the race to avoid putting the lambs back through twice?

Due to logistics I want the ewes to run straight out yard into field, which I know will make it even harder to get lambs to go back in shed to go through race when they've just watched mammy gallop through the gate behind me!

Can you replace one race panel with a short hurdle and a little gate which will then act as a shedding gate when opened into the race? (If that makes sense)

Then you can do one bunch out the side and 2 lots out the end like normal.

You will need to be an octopus or have her to operate it though!!!

Do they form part of the race Jerry?

yes. Scales. Than that gate. Then 10 foot of race made up with sheeted hurdles.

it’s only two way drafting but I can weigh, split out fats and potential replacements and let rest run thru if needed.

If just weaning I run the lot thru and draft of lambs.

currently designing a new static handling set up and if I can there will be a three way drafting gate included

Am I the only one who finds it a full time task to shed 2 ways, and not forget half way through, which way I'm supposed to be drafting? The little one can get quite abrupt when his old dad starts making a mess of it. Unfortunately his trichromatic deficiency makes it hard for him to differentiate any markings so he always tells me to draft while he brings them up.

You need a combi clamp then you can put a stop to proceedings at any time,3 way drafting is easy with them.👍
