Does anyone by any chance operate a , Chimney Sweeping Service?
I ask as I am wondering if their is much call for Chimney Sweeping. At the present time I supply firewood for a bit of pocket money and something thing to do in my retirement years.
New legislation may force me to stop supplying logs after May 2022.
So just starting to think about providing a chimney sweeping service, when I pack up doing firewood.

You need to be Hetas registered, the days of grandad with a set of drain rods have long gone.
You have to provide a certificate of safety which the customer keeps incase their insurance company asks to see it because if the flue hasn't been swept and fires, insurance companies won't pay out.
You also need liability insurance incase jo blogs complains about any mess or damage .
You need a varied amount of brush sizes, rod types ,waste carrier certificate and if you are really posh,a flue camera to inspect the lining.

HETAS seems a bit of a joke in my experience. Chimney liner badly installed here by a registered fitter leading to the house filling with smoke and myself ending up in hospital coughing up blood. Hetas did not want to know until I quoted their own web site back at them!

The installer had put mesh over the chimney pot to keep the birds out as he did not have a cowl. Soot built up on the mesh almost blocking the chimney. All fine now but I am still coughing, years after the incident.

Cerificates and tests are only as good as those who apply them.

Chimney sweeping seems to be quite lucratve up here but it is a short term career as it is physically demanding and most seem to retire to another job fairly early.

I can never understand how businesses/ organisations like “HETAS”,function financially , when it says in the first few words of their “About HETAS” section, of their web site, “ As a non profit organisation”........... .Yet at the end of their accounts , available for all to see from Companies House, they employed 38 people:scratchhead:
HETAS, I believe oversees “Woodsure” who are administering “the ready to burn scheme”.
All a bit of financial puzzle to a simpleton like me.
So I ask ,are “WOODSURE” listed as a charity !!!!?

The company probably mkes no profit because the receipts are absorbed by the enormous salaries of the executives.
