New member here. I have a manitou 522 rt4x4 telehandler that needs all the hydraulic oil cleaned. I swapped out all the tank oil with new,but that got contaminated too. I did put a valve in the bottom of that tank to drain it quickly.
New filter carts are really pricey. Any advice.?
The filter carts on the market do not look complicated, just all the individual parts are pricey.

You are not kidding about pricey, even this one from Flowfit who are usually fairly decent on price, https://www.flowfitonline.com/hydra...MIvo--9KWf5wIVBLDtCh0hhA5AEAQYASABEgLxsvD_BwE
There is not a lot to it motor, bellhousing, pump a couple of filters and a frame, 25lt is a good flow and you need that if you are going to flush through a system properly, but you could clean it slowly with a lot less flow especially if you can hook it up to the machine and leave it running and occasionally start the machine and cycle the hydraulics to stir up the dirt.
I would think you could put one together from salvaged bits only thing would be to possibly buy new filter units then you know the spec of what you are fitting.

why not do what pretty much everyone else will do when changing oil, have big enough or multiple containers ready to catch the oil when you remove the bung, then replace bung once empty and fill with new oil :cautious::cautious:

Too many machines, too much oil laying around in 5 gallon buckets with just some water in them, I just put in 20 gallons after cleaning the tank, but I did not think it through and started the telehandler to get the boom up to do the cylinder seal
Now that brand new oil is contanimated.
I did find a good flush article that outlines the best method.
1. Clean tank and filters
2. Refill with fresh oil
3. Take return line and put into bucket not tank
4.start engine momentari
5lwhenclean oil shows ,kill engine
6disconnect pressure feed to head end of cylinder
7. Flush that line momentarily
8.reconnect hose to head end
9. Disconnect hose from rod end
10. Start engine, move lever to extend rod forcing old oil out of cylinder.
11. Stop engine, reconnect hose At rod end
12 do this to all cylinders and catch oil in bucket
NEVER LET TANK RUN DRY
This gets most of bad oil out
Just takes a bit of time
I will do this on my hoe, but for the telehandler, I am going to reuse the old oil after getting the water out by heating it up to 140 degrees F.

What did it get contaminated with? if just water that's no too bad and you can get that out over time with a plugged in filter unit (filters specifically for removing water) if it's dirt or metal particles then you need to flush all the function hoses into a barrel and replace with clean oil and you may have to do it more than once to get all the bits out.

After I put in fresh 25 gallons and started the telehandler the tank received a whole lot
Of water contaminated oil brown looking
The access hole in top is 6 inches square
So dipped out about 4 gallons
The next morning the remaing oil in the tank was clear of water brown gunkY looking
So I guess it was absorbed by the oil because it was not visible as brown looking

Yes sounds like you need a filter to clean up and take the water out, either a complete stand alone unit or a simple filter which you can plug into a spare service.
Try speaking to the company above (Kleenol) Cardev and CJC are another two companies, but maybe Flowfit or your local hydraulics company can find you a filter that will remove water.
You need to know how the water was getting in and stop it as well.
