Do people insure bulls

Just going through our renewal on the farm insurance . We have our breeding bulls insured on a seperate policy. Just basic mortality insurance if injured not infertility or anything . We have 10 bulls so it mounts up a bit . We haven’t had a claim for years after one done his hip and I’m just wondering if it’s worth the cost . We don’t pay mega money for bulls 3-4K generally just interested to here if others insure stock bulls. Sod’s law I cancel the insurance and half of them hurt themselves this year

Used to. Don’t bother anymore as it’s pretty expensive.

Other reason we don’t anymore is once had a recently purchased bull that damaged his back within a week of putting him in with 10 cows. Poor bugger could barely walk and couldn’t straighten his hind legs from underneath him and support his weight.

Insurance wouldn’t let us put him down for a couple of weeks after our vet said he wouldn’t recover from it. Was absolute cruelty to keep him in the state he was just so they could delay and try find a way of not paying out:cry:

It’s cost just over £200 a year per bull in average which probably doesn’t sound slot but is almost 2,5k time there all insured plus I’m finding that some won’t insure over 5 year old. I’m kinda in the position of having extra bulls this year to cover myself

Very few people bother insuring against mortality and fewer still against infertility. A few years ago my family had 4 bulls insured, the premium we were paying would have nearly paid for 1 replacement bull each year. I think it is only worthwhile for first year or two perhaps if you have been and bought a more costly bull. Premium for all risks mortality cover is around 6% of value. There is also a load of small print re age/ value etc
