Do we get more windy weather nowadays or is it my imagination?

Aged 69, I think we get a lot more strong windy weather than we used to,do any other TFF members of a similar age think the same?
I am sure whatever age you are you find strong winds tedious and tiring, ok while sat in a tractor one is oblivious to the wind but when you have to get off and clear a blockage and you get dust etc in your eyes you think F..k the cursed wind!!!!

Windy here (sw) tonight, and cool with , it not much like summer, finished shearing the last of the ewes and tbh I was in two minds as wether to turn them out or leave them in over night .

I dont know tho surely it was always windy around here at least with the south westerly s /aspect but then I'm not quite 69 yet so cant go back quite so far.......

Just thinking the same thing this week, spent the morning clearing fallen branches here. February and November I think used to be the windiest months with W or SW winds, we get a lot of strong east winds now throughout the year.

We’ve discussed this a lot at work. I’m only 35 but I remember when I was younger the summer was usually lovely, warm, some rain and almost no wind.

Now it seems as though there’s wind or a breeze all year round. Even when it’s very warm.

I think the gulf / jetstream is jiggered. We used to get late Feb and late October high winds, colder drier Winters. Now all that is shaken up

Personally I feel that until this year we have been having less wind than 20 years ago when I struggled to get a stillish day for spraying.

The 30 year average from the met office bears this out as the last 4 years have averaged at least 1 metre per second slower until this year.

Yes.

Weather seems to follow a fairly set pattern now. Monsoon lasting from October till March. Dry May, just a tad too early to make hay. June is always sh!te. July usually dry till.....you guessed it...the combines come out to play.

Sometimes it's f**king wet, sometimes it's f**king dry. Either way it's a bit of a coooonty month.

The last 2 years have not been too bad. Our house is pretty exposed and plenty of nights before when I thought the roof would lift.
Up here in the wild west the summers are often wet. Average over 3 inches rain July/August. Events cancelled, cricket abandoned, trying to make hay for 3 weeks. We remember the long hot school holidays, bare feet and shorts for 7 weeks. Except it wasn't. My father abandoned a caravan holiday after it rained for 4 days solid.
Our memories are selective.

Next year we will probably have a really wet spring and everyone will have forgotten this spring and be saying "I'm sure our springtimes are getting wetter"

Switch the season/weather patterns for anything you like, hear the same kind of thing every year!

2018 - drought - "the earth is burning up, global warming, blah"

2020 - wet start to July - "we never get proper summers anymore"

Cant seem to get a break here, monsoon, drought and just when it is fit for spraying mother nature chucks some wind in. Glad im only a relief sprayer driver now. 3 days last week was a headache enough.

I have said over recent years that we get a lot less thunderstorms than we used to, back in the 70's and 80's I can remember some absolute tremendous storms. some of which did some structural damage here with high winds and thunder. We had a bit of thunder a couple of weeks ago, first I remember for a long time, but only a brief storm.
