Do you lock your doors at night

I don't live in rural Scotland, I can see the lights of a city from my living room window.

Its not a matter of danger, you say you don't insure your house, or lock your doors.
If someone takes your keys and you don't have home insurance your have no theft cover for that vehicle.
But more importantly if a family member or visitor is hurt or killed in your home and you don't have insurance, you could have some questions to answer.
If someone breaks in and steals your car keys isn’t that covered by your car insurance?
House insurance is needed for the building but I don’t see the point in contents insurance

Never used to, but around June this year we had some visitors in a transit, roughed dad up because he wouldn't give them a battery. He threatened to come that night and "take the feckin lot"

Despite dad remembering the number plate the Police cso arrived 3 days later and wasn't interested in taking it further, but gave us some smart water so they could trace anything they took in the future. o_O

Fear led to change, house is locked now, the yard gates chained when we're not about and fitted 4 security cameras.

I’d like to rig stuff up to mains electric for security. Put a warning sign up in as many languages as possible and let them take their chances.

Since that’s not legal (mores the pity) how about some kind of trigger to bomb intruders with molasses. Or slurry. Or silage effluent. Something to make it difficult and uncomfortable to go any further.

How we have got to the point of it being illegal to do someone harm who is actively doing you harm is beyond my thinking.
