Present Mrs C is a dedicated lock up warder, ever since her Mother was burgled while she was out in her lambing shed.... I do not always share her dedication to security as I have locked myself out too often.

Doors locked, but an axe would make short work of elderly sash windows. :(Interestingly, the old mullioned windows have 3/4 " holes for iron bars across the window panes. Back to the dark ages again, maybe ?

We have to lock the doors as the bloody pet lamb can open the sliding door.

Otherwise, I wouldn't dream of doing so, I would rather my kids could get themselves out of a housefire.
That's easily our highest probability of loss.

Any intruders would be subject to torture by Lego bricks/marbles to the instep, the cats will maim with good intent, and then they'd lovingly be cranially realigned with my wooden cosh that lives under the bed.

Or worst: my wife would get to them first, and she's half the reason I sleep armed :)

Just about every theft crime would seize to happen in this country if the politicians adopted the attitude of their best friends located in Saudi Arabia, cut the hands off anyone caught stealing. I bet millions of people in this country would support that, especially farmers and tradesmen who have had their vans done over.

We have an excellent benefits system in this country, there is no excuse for anyone to steal off hard working people.

Fuc37s drilled through one of our wagon diesel tanks and took all the diesel ending up with a bill of over £1500 for repairs.

I lock the doors on a night and if I’m in the sheds away from the house . The house is very close to the public road so it’s just sensible to stop people from just being able to walk into the house.
HMO ( houses of multiple occupy) properties have to have thumb turn locks on the doors so any one can unlock the door without a key in case of fire .
