Noticed on clean down in the Autumn that hydraulic and hydrostat belt were both slack off the shaft. (Both pulling the same way)
When engaging the thrashing gear (which would pull the shaft the other way) you can see the whole shaft move.

Had bell House bearing done in 2017 - with casting re machined - and then needed bearing done again winter 2021 but no other damage except bearing.
Only done 220 acres since.

What could cause movement of the shaft?

Only really the bearing to cause movement I would think slacken the belts of and have a shake? You say housing was remachined in 2017 is it possible that bearing is slightly too tight in housing causing it to heat up as I have had that on other applications also check the bearing spec

Yep remachined in '17.
New bearing seemed to seize in '21. Couldn't turn the engine over one morning.
Second time there was no damage and they just put a new bearing in.

Wondered if there was something that might had just gotten slack.

Did they fit a C3 loose fit bearing?
Normal ones are too tight, and eventually spin in the bell housing or on the shaft.

Not sure what they fitted tbh. Assume claas knew what they were doing ×2.

Is machining the of casting a thing?? Or should I had sourced a casting first time around?

Tbh I don't know.
You would hope Claas did it right.
Unless they sleeved it, why machine Bell housing.
You assemble bearing on shaft first and then slide housing home over the lot, so it's not a tight fit anyway.
