Went to hear him last night,if I am to be honest and probably go against the general feeling on this thread I was disappointed. I didn’t think he really took anything new or different to the table.

I guess no matter how good the speaker is they won't appeal to everyone, especially on a tour which will involve hundreds of people.
Shame you didn't enjoy it but I'm still looking forward to next week.

Please don’t let me put you off, there were a lot of people there who found him very inspirational but I wasn’t one of them and it was worth going just to hear what everybody was talking about.

I've listened to most of the podcast on rock n roll farming with Doug and so far I haven't gleaned a lot apart from that he grew lucerne in a drought not ryegrass white clover. There are a few other bits and bobs such as the need to talk/ listen openly about mental health which is good, and the need to be open minded about lots of things. I'll have to read the book a bit.

Edit - Actually that video above does flesh it out a bit - says he's 63 and living in the best place he's ever been and more excited about life than when he was 18. Thats certainly a positive message and I can see how little statements like that can be invigorating rather than thinking as you get older life is a slower decline etc.

Well last night we went and listened to him. He spoke for about 1hr 50mins, nobody in the crowd of about 100 was sleeping, everyone seemed to enjoy it.

There wasn't any earth shattering thing that will change everything I do but there were a lot of bits I need to do better and pay attention to. An evening very well spent.

So i should the copy from there that is shipped from oz?

I bought the (UK?) copy from Amazon - but it is in large print (no pictures).
Perfectly readable but it is a bigger book than the Oz one.
See my post #15
My book is the left-hand book on post #40

Met Doug and his wife today in Edinburgh - really nice couple and they are thoroughly enjoying their tour of Scotland. Everything seems to be "awesome". (y)

Will hear his talk tomorrow night down at Gatehouse of Fleet.

I finished the podcast, listened to another one in the tractor and I'm halfway through his book (enjoyable) and I will say it has fleshed it out a bit and the last 20 mins of the first podcast got more interesting. He highlights some awful incidents in his life/ families life such as the suicide of his brother and my take home message from it all is still about being open minded, not shutting yourself away, embracing change, accepting you can't change some things etc.

So after the first podcast felt a bit slow at first I'll give him a big thumbs up now. He speaks from the heart. Life is a mixture of pretty sh!t and pretty good really!

I bought and read the book over the summer, I’d advise everyone on the forum to buy and read the book. Will make you see things in a different light even more especially given the current climate/situation. Will certainly make you include your respective partners in farm matters and generally what’s rolling round your head. Would love for him to do an England tour at some point. The key message I got is to not worry about anything outside of your circle of influence and be open minded to all ideas especially ones you think up yourself.
