Dowdeswell dp8a not turning over

Hello all.

I've just pulled the old dowdeswell out of the hedge where it has sat for a couple of years after it stopped turning over with a view to fix it and then sell it. It isn't just that it won't flip, but it won't really turn the plough either way. I believe the turnover valve might be the problem? Would anybody know where I could get a new block (if that's the problem) or if there is a rebuild kit available? If that isn't the problem, what else could it be? The rest of the plough is in good condition, 3+1 Furrow. We didn't bother to fix it because we bought a 5 furrow to replace it!

Sell it as it stands ,let somebody else sort it ,,if you start throwing money it ,you wont get it back

right well i'll get the fittings changed and try it again. If that fixes it then thats great, if not, which turnover box is it that i need to buy, or is there a rebuild kit i can get?

which one of them would i need? they seem to go from around 100 to 500, dont want to spend 500 if i can get away with 100

Connect turnover ram directly to spool valves to try it .I have a DP8B and have used it like this for several years.

thats a good idea actually. Will give that a shot if the fittings dont fix anything.

When our old dp8 suddenly failed to turn over, it was just one of the small springs in the valve block broken. New spring and it was fine again, inexpensive simple repair.

The valves can be a pita but so can broken depth wheels

Dp 8 ploughs were not that popular, light weight headstock prone to cracking ,as it stands you might get £500 as a donor ,if it needs a valve block that's 200 gone before you start ,

theres one online for 1250 in working order.

Connecting the ram direct to the tractor, bypassing the turnover block works quite well. But on most ploughs you need to swap the flow direction on the spool operating lever as it goes over centre, half way through the turnover cycle.
It can also be an idea to reduce the oil flow speed on the tractor if you can, to reduce the speed the plough turns over.
But not so much that it turns over too slowly, losing momentum and getting stuck half way.
