Down on the farm programmes.

Another skewed view of what real farming is all about.
Seems to be lots of them on channel five. They aren’t farms, they are animal rescue centres. Funded by charity or big disposable income from elsewhere. Unsustainable economically and environmentally. Sentimentalising the job and moving public perception evermore in the wrong direction.
Somebody was crying over a big elderly boar and moving it on to a refuge. Needed to be sausages really.
The gap gets ever wider.

Gave up with the one last night, and flicked over to watch Mud, sweat and tractors again ( The Jersey tomato grower always brings a tear to my eye ). Maybe these farming zoos whilst being unrealistic, create a nice cosy image for the public ? Not many would want to see factory farming and abattoirs IMO. Tin hat on.

These rescue farms never seem to mention what happens to their animals in the few months before they die.

Was watching Kate Humbles latest offering yesterday and saw our old vet Ben helping out with farrowing

Best bit of the programme tbh

I thought old boars went for pork pies (boar taint)

lol. So much for my plea for without prejudice.

Perhaps it's just me, but when I watched it I didn't see it as a 'vegan' film at all, but rather a film about a guy dealing with expectations/ family/don't let the side down etc . The vegan bit was incidental to me.

why would a farmer watch others farming on tv ?

if you are reading this you are probably not the target audience

Because I'm not represented in the main stream media, I'm vilified and it's nice to see someone putting forward my culture, my way of life and I can take pride there are millions of other people who enjoy what I enjoy.

Also it's a bit like hedge farming ...

Caught 'Farm Life' this evening on one of the more obscure freeview channels - really enjoyed it, unlike the toddler in the Gator with his Dad cutting Kohl rabi at -1 degrees! Quite and unassuming, no gushing, included some decent bits about ferreting and that the Aga lamb named Henry by the kids didn't make it through the night. Organic of course.
