We found a big old CHX cow down in some muck on Friday night, put it down to being heavy in calf and got her up again. She walked off looking normal but same thing happened the following night in a different spot. Couldn’t get her to stand that night so just moved her, called the vet and gave her some calcium and magnesium as advised. Next morning she had moved but was down again flat out.
We borrowed a hip clamp and kept lifting her up, giving plenty of calcium and metacam. Yesterday she got up unaided and looked a lot better. We were hopeful for today but she struggled this morning so we made the decision to induce her.
Picked up a 15ml injection of Rapidexon from the vets and as soon as the needle came out of the cow she fitted and was dead within a minute or 2. Anybody had any similar experiences? The vet thought it was staggers and nothing to do with the injection but if you’d seen her immediate reaction to the drug you would not believe it.
