Also... Back when we bought our maxxum off of pryces we dealt with a chap called Jon Kittow. Nice chap, very helpful. I know he dropped in a couple of times to make sure we were getting on well with it etc etc a few months after it was delivered. Was hoping to deal with him again but couldn't see any sign of him working at pryces wandered if anyone knew what became of him?

Not had a salesman drop in since and that was 4 years back... I know we may not be the biggest players in the area but I do plan on expanding, and it does happen that I have a fair bit of machinery that is wearing out and needs replacing. You'd think the salesmen would be very keen to get that business but they dont seem to be fighting over it...
They probably all read the threads of everyone moaning about random salesmen turning up in the yard. Prob thought f**k em 🤣

Yes there is plenty of entitlement out there.

Won’t always be sunshine rainbows and ice cream.

If sales can’t reply to emails or general enquiries of product’s someone else should.

My local agricultural merchant sells loads of small implements, yard scrapers, linkboxs, bale handlers, fert sowers etc, you can also order trailers muckspreaders, vacuum tankers and dribble bars if you wish - it’s brilliant. A price there and then or a call 20 minutes later.

They shift a lot of stuff.

Some proper machinery outlets could learn a lot.
Everywhere different, you're not selling a combine, tractor or large complicated drill with 20 minutes work, yard scrapers and link boxes are easy, should just have a price on them and take the money really.
Many need to do better but I don't get the Email thing, it tells me it's just a vague inquiry and can wait and if you're busy 50 emails with specific requests take time.
Communication is key, ring up and maybe even make an appointment to see someone if there's something you want.

If companies don’t want to reply to emails or take email enquiries then they shouldn’t put out their email addresses.
If sales reps are so busy then that they need to prioritise who they speak to, the dealership needs to employ more sales staff or an internal sales team to take enquiries and pass them on to a rep who can then handle the enquiry from there.

They probably are short staffed, and spread a bit thin but extra staff have to be paid for.
E mail if you want but a phone call or visit will likely get more attention.
If you were in sales would you answer all your emails before your phone or keeping appointments?

The quickest salesman I ever dealt with was Charlie oakhill when he worked for holt Jcb .
Came out to see the fastrac I was swapping in for new one .
He took it for a test drive, when he came back, we walked in the house, had a cup of tea ,and the purchase was done before we finished the cup of tea.
He said once the cheque had cleared, the tractor will be with you.
We had the first 100 hr service done within six days of it coming here ,and we sold it again that year with 5500 hrs there about’s on it. And we did the deal again he said they was the quickest sales he’s ever done to me.

It amazes me that there is a lack of follow-up. ( unless you are on "the list" in the office. )

I always trained my salesmen/women to appreciate the value of a lead. How much does it cost in marketing, offices, shows, staff, cars, phones etc to get the OP to pick up the phone and enquire? This is also where dealers with "territories" are removing market competition.

I recently got a price on a muck grab for skidsteer. I said I'll decide what size I want and call you back in 30 mins. His son answered, said he's with a customer, explained he was his son and would definitely pass on the message and he'd get back to me. Nothing.
In the meantime our crush gave up on life so we are getting a new crush instead, not from him!

Why are you still focused on the big tackle? My point wasn’t that a link box sale is the same as a combine, it was that an Ag merchant was shifting a ton of stuff without even trying, rather largely just on footfall through the place.

They can also sell trailers at 5k, muck spreaders at 7k and tanker&trailing shoe at over 30k - not insignificant amounts of money.

Everyone’s needs or indeed everyone’s journey is different.
A young lad of 15 in with his dad buys a ATV trailer for lambs, an old guy of 80 buys a half ton sower as he’s fed up with his own being a worn heap last 5 years.

Both would likely be ignored as an irrelevance elsewhere.

Don’t see what’s ‘vague’ about an email enquiry, you can keep dates and amounts and figures all tied down in the one place that keeps both parties right.

I’ve bought 7 tractors and two handlers just by emails or messages over the last 12 years, over 20 implements too and out of that I’ve only seen one tractor - and two round balers.

Most of them where used machines and not a new tractor or combine, my enquiry would hardly be worthwhile following up on..

He was good because he was a genuine farmer before becoming a rep .He lives locally and does his own farming again just not dairy anymore.

What on earth are you doing clocking up 5500 hours in a year. That works out 15 hours pet day every single day of the year!
