What a beautiful day! Is this the calm before the storm?

Cracking on with what may be the last field of winter cereals for this year and it’s going in well, can’t even tell where the blocked drain was.

Looks like we're going to be on WW here until March and WO until April.

Hopefully, might provide some interesting insights into the potential perils of non-vernalization.

To be honest, we've not had much very much help on here from any of the seed suppliers or breeders, nor even from the HGCA to whom we've all paid many of thousands in levy.

Under the circumstances, they surely might have made a bit more of an effort.

Big disappointment.

However, will now get to learn a bit more, one way or the other, by (End June) or soon after.

How much of 1200 acres done/not done?
I’ll have 90% of my planned winter cropping area drilled up when I finish this 20ac field in about an hour, we’ve swapped some fields around to enable drilling wheat on the better land.
Our heavy ground that was destined for wheat would need at least another two weeks of dry weather to get near it!
Ive one field that had spuds on that I may have a go at this afternoon but if that’s not fit I’ll call it a day as after we’ll be back to square one.

im working on the theory that the end of safe sowing dates is 2-3 weeks early as in this litiginous age should someone say sow till end of feb rather than jan could end up liable .

As of a few minutes ago we have 20 acre left two combis running odd patch or two missed ,weve sown ww and some wb this last week into reasonable to good seedbeds so time will tell . weve been lucky with the weather and our decisions re how when and which field to sow been on our side,im a lot happier than I was10 days ago and will have a celebratory tincture tonight along with the lads and gals whove worked up to and beyond the call of duty, we may patch the odd headland up if weather allows next week

Next job have some sleep a day off then start on the fert round might even look at the alpine availability end of month

We have finished drilling w wheat today and now drilling for a neighbour. I'm fairly sure thats it now, although siskin is ok till towards the end of feb??? Nothing else to go at really except failed osr which could go 2nd wheat but I don't think it will plough up particularly nice.
Just adding up and we have actually drilled more w wheat than was currently planned(about 5ha) albeit to a different cropping plan!
More 2nd wheats than originally planned and slightly less 1st some after maize and other after spuds.

All this thread makes me realise is what sh!t land I have. 9 acres of beans yesterday and got stuck twice. No cereals. Great
Haven’t been able to do any drilling since October, and the last block I did has drowned, will need redrilling, drives me nuts hearing of all this drilling going on, no chance in hell of a drill moving here! So you are not alone.

Chill out, add up the costs you wont be spending this year, they wont be far behind the income lost, we are in very low margin territory nowadays.
