As I said earlier what do u do, we had 10mm forecast for today as of Thursday so we cracked on Friday. Had 26mm and still coming
Yep, fields looking like a mirror, dykes over flowing. They normally over egg these weather events but looks like we have been wasting our time drilling this week.

Sorry to read this, must be sole destroying for you. We have had a similar amount and still comming. No more land work for 3 weeks I guess, and even then some of it will need a fortnight or more of drying winds afterwards.

would you have done anything different, dont think I would have ,just got to hope that next week is as forecast i.e more dry than wet if the ponds are shrinking in the morning weve done right at least there is a chance of a crop cos here we wouldnt be sowing till next month now ,its as wet as its been since before xmas

26mm so far

I have a stream that’s diverted across a wood and 20 acres of newly drilled wheat of mine so I need to see what’s blocked in the neighbours

What a crock, might as well have gone to the pub this week, may have been more productive
I'm surprised you've only had 26mm, getting on for the high 30s here and still raining.
York could be in trouble, there's a big water comming down all the rivers, all ditches full, fields like boating lakes.

Possibly wouldn't have drilled the field i drilled yesterday. We have drilled at every opportunity there has been (after 22nd of september) and pushed it too far on some occasions. There will be 30 acre of that failed which i suppose could be worse, 60 acre drilled back end of this week this week is certainly taking a hammering right now, can hear the rain hitting the windows now.

Thanks it’s just a bit soul destroying after 5 months of this crap. Booked the days off work, Get kids to school, crack on, miss a load of kids after school stuff working late then the weather fecks it all. Ok we are only small but I thought we had actually achieved something This week after nothing done upto now.
Don't be too disheartened, the stuff we did get drilled early November germinated and we should get a crop, I will take a 3t average on it now but I will be disappointed if it does sub ,2.5 it has had nothing but crap since it was drilled. Hopefully what is in now will get some decent weather soon.

Well all i have managed to achieve is to tie up another £4k in seed in bags that i can't drill. Ordered it last week when forecast was cold and dry. Turned to warm and wet as soon I came off the phone. I did manage to get most but not all the stubbles and failed rape land sprayed off last week and it was drying up nicely. Much too wet again now and will take wind and no rain for another 5 days to become anything like dry enough again, which just won't happen.
Yes, damned if you do and damned if you don't. What a crock of shite. Nothing drilled, rape gone down from 50 acres to 8 acres which is hardly worth bothering with. The job just won't go. Agronomy meeting tomorrow. Won't be a lot to talk about. If it wasn't for the lambing coming up, I would be looking for another job.

Mr positivity personified here. We have just rolled out last dice for WW this year, time will tell if it comes in but as the saying goes : you have to be in it to win it'

I will drill winter wheat into first week of March rather than have 100% spring barley. If it doesn't vernalise it will be silage. The arable job here has been impossible since October and doesnt show much sign of improving. Every time we make a move or plan to do something we are snookered by the weather. Fortunately half the farm is grass and a pleasure to walk over it. Walking the arable is soul destroying and brings me out in a cold sweat thinking of the financial side. Last week I was optimistic but not so much now. I am normally an optimistic person and will make things work if there is the slightest chance but this year has me at a complete loss. Never mind.

Although I am the eternal optimist walking the osr every morning putting banger ropes out that don't seem to be doing any good has been thoroughly depressing, as is watching all that brown water washing through the drains and becks :(

Your posts on various threads in the last 4 months suggest otherwise

look on the bright side if like us you havnt spent a penny on autumn applications nor as yet put any fert on nor spent a fortune on autumn residuals or got a shed full of early fungicide and as yet arnt committed to spend for at least another month or more and if you do it wont be as much as you would have spent last autumn .Instead of the usual cold sweat im almost glowing ( thats an exaggeration but get my drift)

Drills and ploughs flying yesterday. Sopping now. You can see water between the plough furrows in places. It's hellish. Can't see anything gone in on clay this last week yielding that well.

Forecast now looks a bit ropey for next weekend. Every time I think we can't have a worse year the UK weather drops another stinking turd on us.

Can't like that, sorry Mate.

I was saved by my niece's party. My Mum is struggling a bit now so had to take her, to see her only grandaughters 5th birthday party which went really well.

In hindsight saved me money, oh & have an aunt in intensive care so spending time there too.
