Drilling anyone?

rained enough after drilling

That's been the thin margin between success and failure here.

Some that we put in with only 2" of rain before emergence is OK.

Other bits we put in with 3" before emergence not looking too happy.

4" or more before emergence means having to patch quite a lot of it up, in due course.

Unfortunately, it was quite impossible to suss all this out at the time, weather forecasts being as they are.

Think we will leave this last 2 acres till the spring. Just hope we dont get to much rain on the rest of it before it emerges.

That will be a no for DD then :(
Have you tried putting the transport wheels down a touch to help it stay afloat, takes a bit of adjusting as you go along but would let it travel? We've drilled some very wet patches like this that would have been impossible otherwise. Ours is only a 3m though so the wheels take the weight quite evenly across the whole width, don't know if it would be the same on a wider machine. You might have to adjust the seed on/off switch.

Finished another field this morning, stubble ploughed yesterday and combi drilled. Lightish land, gone in well considering, it is 2nd wheat that was going to be spring barley but will have enough of that elsewhere.
Took the spring tines over to a block of land, rape stubble that had been run through with lds subsoiler about 9inches deep. Dry on top but a sticky mess underneath about 3" down so going to plough and combi it hopefully.

Back at work thanks to Andrew Guest who supplied me with a maxipacker and a few parts to make it fit in place of the original standard packer.
fortunately there was enough clearance between it and the drill for everything to fit together.

My neighbour has a wheeled JD 8 series on the plough and a JD 8370rt on a 3 metre lely combi drill, trying to get wheat in on some heavier land after spuds.

What's that, 800hp to get a 3 metre drill going?

Making me feel quite good with a mere 160hp cultivation pass and 180hp on the drill!

When they were new and shiny, about 104hp (less now I'd think!) putting in 7mtrs :censored::X3:
