Yes but in a livestock area if you don’t have stock you don’t have income on a normal year. This year we’d all be better selling up and selling the feed
Some that are overstocked and overborrowed wont survive this,i can think of at least 3 round here that are in a dire situation. One started up a dairy unit a couple years ago,has 300 spring calvers now, eaten the 2nd cut grass, will soon be opening the 1st cut clamp, could be empty again by November. There is no grass left here at all.Specialist sheep farms are in a similar situation,BBC are saying August will be dryish as well. This drought will take some breaking now,we have had rain 4mm on Monday and 13mm a on the 1st of July, but the moisture deficit is massive now.Bet overstocked and cut everywhere lot are scratching their heads now and more heat due this weekend ?
That's a cracking photo!View attachment 694466 We caught a shower of 1.5 mm.
But this big one went on towards Shrewsbury
Getting as most crops are past the point of no return so apart from the grass, I am leaning towards keep it coming I want a stress free harvest
just been servicing the drier cos as sure as hell as soon as the combine goes down the lane it will p down every third day for 3 weeks and one of the days in between will be foggy, im still at least 10 days away and could cut the lot in 8Getting as most crops are past the point of no return so apart from the grass, I am leaning towards keep it coming I want a stress free harvest

Roads were wet in the next village today , but despite being overcast , no rain here at all.
Local farmer and weather watcher here has only 2 inches rain since 1st June. May must have been similar. Usually would be 3-4 inches each month so grass is really suffering now. Second cuts are disappearing, hay good but yields poor and some eating into reserves which should be for this winter.
I am sure by September there will be grass and mud again but store cattle might be cheaper for the big August sales if the uncertainty continues.
We wouldn't have had an inch in that time in 2 lots !Local farmer and weather watcher here has only 2 inches rain since 1st June. May must have been similar.
