We had between 4-5 mm here same as you @@carbonfibrefarmer and @Nick. As the crow flies I'm 25 km from raf lakenheath I find it incredible that over such a short distance it can be so different.

I got up at 2.30 to get little one a drink and the lightning was amazing it was constant and was like it in all directions.

Here's a cumulative rainfall map for the last 24hrs, shows quite well how narrow the band of rain was

There was a serious amount of lightning at about midnight in the distance. BBC was talking about light rain possible. Woke up at 4.30 and the grass was dry so went spraying thinking nothing more of it.

Checked my FB this morning and Cambridge had these with torrents of water running down the street:

Luckily it missed us last night. Now that the wheat is turning we have had plenty of showers and several days of constant drizzle, but you can keep that hail thank you.

Mr Lettuce decides to irrigate the field -

They had two tractors pulling the hose out and then attached the boom at the other end (ingenious!)

Remind me not to hire our land out!

Does seem extreme! Possibly lettuce has been contaminated with soil from rain splash, which is a big no no with supermarkets, so trying to wash it out?
