Looking at getting a cheap one of these to spread our tipped FYM , all the straw goes through a bedder and is tipped for 2-8mths . I had a Dowdeswell in the past which was fine on slop but rubbish on anything solid as if too rotten the auger would bung up and obviously too fresh it would bridge even with the anti bridge ram .
However I borrowed a neighbours west and this seemed to handle all sorts no bother at all and make as good a spread pattern as the rear discharge I normally hire but was far less power hungry and easier to pull on our steep banks . Hiring is cheap enough it's just the handiness of being able to spread the odd pile as and when I want ,not waiting for the hire machine and having to wash it off everytime that I like about having my own machine .
So is West best for this with it wobble board or would a Shelbourne handle our type of muck well enough as they seem better built with less to go wrong than the West with all it's internal moving parts , paint seems pretty poor on the West and it's a bit annoying spreading to the left . Don't fancy a cheap rear discharge as too much to go wrong with the bed chains where as a dual spreader is just mainly bearings to replace which I can manage .
Thoughts please
