After using NC dumpers I hate dumpers with standard doors, tree stumps and rubbish like that is never a problem with NC. Particularly dislike Herbst as the same oil tips as opens the door.

is a standard door an up and over?surely the door @tip are operated by seperate spool levers

Not what your wanting to hear, but wouldn't buy a herbst or pf as their design/type is outdated. Narrow floor hard to scrape out and prone to muck sticking, high sides as above and harder for small diggers to fill, short reach up and over hydraulic door will be in the way more often than not, super singles on a dumper are the work of satan.

Yes, unless you only want half a load of stone out and then it has to try and push the door back up with weight on... so never tried it, you can make the door stay down all the time though.

I bought a 14t PF dump trailer about 4 years or so ago. Its had no issues and been very useful to me, though I won't pretend I've worked it to death, just shifting soil and hardcore around the farm. Can't really comment on performance vs other makes as it replaced a series of ancient farm built trailers, so anything modern would seem like a Rolls Royce upgrade by comparison. I'm still pleased not to have to get out to unlatch the tailgate every time!

You may call the herbst design outdated but it makes for a compact/short trailer compared to other equivalents. I don't think their any higher either than others. Newer herbst can be got with double acting rams on the door which uses a separate hydraulic service from the tipping circuit. One other thing about the herbst design is the body tips from a high pivot point at the back so they make tall piles, you can tip a lot of stuff in small room

6 inches higher than an NC and a good 9 inches higher than a Kane or Herron. Those narrow type deep bottom dumpers are a pure hoor on clay unless you have a 360 at the tip constantly scraping out they will happily bring a quarter of their load back every time. As for piling nothing will tip up a pile like an NC as it will tip a load over a load. Have had the most of them here shifting clay from 8 ton single axle TBF to 27 ton Joskins and they all have good and bad points but I would seriously consider a different design regardless of manufacturer. When your sitting bogged for the umpteenth time with half your load jammed against the hyd door and a quarter of it stuck to the floor and your super singles in out of site you will remember this thread.

Barford here with a magic door. Slightly heavier than an NC but over a grand cheaper. I wouldn't bother with an up and over door, we use it for fym and would jam up I think.

Barford is made by Herbst, I would say it has thinner side sheet metal on them than others.

Apologies to the op for not rubbishing the trailer he was thinking of buying. It aint possible to make a trailer to suit every single task if it was there wouldn't be a need for threads like this. Ok the herbst design is narrow for scraping out (other buckets are available) but real clarty sh*t will stick in any trailer. If you don't want super singles spec something else. Magic doors are good no doubt but the trailer ends up 2ft longer for no benefit. Depends what the op wants it for and what access is like where it's gonna be used. I can get into places with my 14t herbst where a 14t nc won't cos of extra length. More than half a load and door opens first so I've never had half a load jammed against the door.
