its whats known as a quick nock, if you are a small farmer the auctioneers don't value your custom you must always watch your stock sold sometimes the auctioneer will do a favour to a dealer i once watched a hereford bull calf go in the ring the auctioneer said bobby calf five pounds? sold , it was not a bobby calf

sold some cull dairy cows on a Wednesday, had a phone call from mart on the following Monday, they were not going to pay me for 1, as it died on a farm, on the sunday morning!
as one might imagine, I was not best pleased, as in my book, if you put an animal through the cull ring, that should happen.
no vet cert, I asked had it been milked since wed? I said it was the buyers responsibility at the fall of the hammer, apparently not, as all cull stock has a 7 day warranty, asked to see that on the mkt rules----- never materialised, as we had deal't with the mkt for decades, I was #####
rung up the auctioneer, he immeadiately said his firm would pay half, and cheque came next post, can't say anything fairer than that. but the market manager would not move,
went the following Wednesday, bought 3 dairy cows, and took a year to pay for them, on the drip- every time they rung up for a cheque, i'd send them a couple of £100.
they have not had any fat lambs, calves, or barreners, or store cattle in any numbers since, I occaisionaly send a few barreners there, to support the auctioneer. that was about 10 yrs ago, the money they have lost through upsetting us, would have made the original £420 look stupid
