EID Tags and Parlour ID

One of my guys is considering some fairly significant parlour upgrades over the next 12 months. One of the things they're keen on is using EID tags for the parlour ID and moving away from the peds they use currently.

Now my understanding is getting the right tags is key as not all tags are equal.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Most systems use HDX tags these days that are easily obtainable.

I would wait till the new EID system is rolled out then get readers to suit.

HDX tags are £3 where I get them, 50p for the back. Work in the auto calf feeder so the heifer calf gets them then and keeps it.

ive got atl Auto Id with all flex tags. Had it ten years now. It works very well but I’m at the stage now where the readers by the troughs need repair or renewing. They’re between 80 or 90 quid each , but the rest of it will still go on for years.

I use HDX Allflex button Tags also, but all heifer calves are getting a HDX tag at birth now (built into 2nd official tag)

Delaval readers in parlour and the only issue we have had is if a cow looses the tag!

Almost guaranteed that they wont lose the cheap tag!
