Apologies if in the wrong thread . Does anyone have the name for this type of insulator the one that you drill the hole for .

Its a Bryce wire vice. Only seen them for sale in one place in the uk and not sure if it comes with the insulator half.

The vices are great things, widely available. But I wouldn't recommend the insulator part. The pipe can drift out of the post, making the post live.
I prefer to use a vice and a tie off insulator. But I usually give 18+ inches or so of wire between to insulator and the post to allow for extra tensioning in future.

yep,excellent tensioner - there used to be a chap in Scotland who imported them as well i think from mmemory - but i have lost the adrress even if he does still supply them .
We just used to call them the 'mushroom ' ones.

But as above post- we never used them to take the hot wire right through the post -surely that would require quite a large hole to be drilled .....

Trying to find some insulators to attach to a pigtail post so got a second wire for sheep, can't have the slide over ones as the top pigtail attached, have got some ancient ceramic ones that bolt to the post, the closest I can find is these:

That image shows them on some sort of ribbed post. Are they going to grip to a smooth steel post ? ( Or anyone got a bucket full of the old ceramic ones ?

the plastic screw thread ones will do it ...... with a bit of modding .....
hacksaw down the back to pop over the post ? the plastic takes that does it, doesn't snap ? will experiment.
Yeah hacksaw or one of them modern cutty tools or angle grinder anything thats neat and carefull.
get some like we used to use , i think they were hotline ones maybe, (very tough lasting plastic)take a plasma disc for your cordles or 4 inch mains angle grinder then slit carefully thrugh the threaded bit then cut a little bit of a flair at the end so they will press on easier ..
