ELMS “wish list”

I only half agreed (RPA bit) but wondered where RT came in. Realised this morning how you're right. If you're a naughty boy and tell them to stuff their ELMS, then guess what - non compliance. :banghead:

Classic (withered) carrot and (sharp) stick.

wonder if @Guy Smith has anything to say about that now he’s employed by Red Tractor ?

it’s a genuinely interesting question to ask if Red Tractor will form and part of it connection to ELMS. or and option under it ?
if no answer i will add that to the list for the next David Kennedy interview

Judging by some of the comments on the Defra Elms webinar I can see assurance schemes being a pre requisite for Elms. The inspectors then act as the policemen that we pay for.
Think that’s far fetched ........ well wait and see.

i would be very disappointed with DEFRA if public money went to Ref Tractor or it was given any statutory power - they are unfit for purpose and in bed with / controlled by the NFU which as we know most certainly does not represent us all

Why on earth should accessing funds through a Govt environmental initiative, be tied to a privately owned company??? Ludicrous in the extreme.

Hold on ---i thought all these things you suggested were no brainers and would increase the net worth/profitability of your land asset ? If that's the case why wouldn't you be doing it anyway without me paying you?
And i would argue that in many cases you should be doing by law what you are asking me to pay you for?
If you wanted paying & if I were the judge (which luckily for you i'm not) you would have to deliver much more than you are offering

I'm not convinced ----
Great discussion - we have to remember that Joe Public currently pays out £3.5 billion on farm support, and people say not very much of this directly benefits the public. Clive's wish list for ELMS is a replacement for BPS and the his focus on cover crops and soil improvement seems more acceptable than spending on machinery, property and other assets. Better soil will be a long term benefit to both farm and public.

Something along the lines of:-

"One of our customers heard something about this on the telly, so we've arbitrarily added it to our standards"

More like,

Bozzer: "Carrie, was chatting to one of her friends at a dinner party last week, and it seems a sensible thing to do in this new scheme, Minister?"

Minister: Yes Prime Minister.

I hope that I am reading between the lines incorrectly but you may need to prepare to be disappointed. 😕

not many things would prompt me tp give up farming but that quite possibly would do

the lunatics really would be running the asylum then

Red Tractor needs scrapping, it's out of control and as farmers we can do nothing about that especially when it's so in bed with the NFU who part own it. The best thing Defra could do is step in and save us from the meaningless, quango job protection racket that it has become

we need assurance, just not the joke of a scheme we have

Ah, you didn’t say it was for traditional buildings. Best knock it down before they list it.
There stipulations are ridiculous though for the pathetic amount of money. Don’t get me wrong I am not dead against cs or elms or anything for that matter. But unless you can do it on a big way I don’t see where the reward is.
