Establishing AB15 legume mix

a few clovers, enough to satisfy an inspection if i had one tomorrow. can see a massive BG seed return if im not careful. redrilling would be far better, i reckon, even if more expense.
You say satisfy an inspection but I have not seen a document which outlines what the minimum standard is other than establishing the crop. I wouldn’t want to do more than necessary. Margins poor enough as it is. I’d be very angry if I failed based on an arbitrary clover population that hasn’t been made clear to me.

But it is not made clear, is it. I have pored over the guidance notes and not seen a minimum amount required. Good in one sense, by somewhat nervous in another if the clover population is thin. I have taken the view there is always some clover, even if sparse, and a seed purchase invoice.

yes i agree and part of me says 'Sod it, go with what weve got, spend no more, keep topping to stop the blackgrass and forget about it' the other half of me says 'spray it off' drill it properly with vetch and sainfoin, as clover is a waste of time, and have a field that will actually fix some N and look nice and improve the soil'. A field of blackgrass certainly wont improve the soil atall.

Keep topping. Must be cheaper than redrilling. Won't more come if you redrill? If you get through this year with no seed return can you hope for better success next year?

Has anyone asked NE or RPA if they can glyphosate off their AB15 which was sown in August but now resembles a field of blackgrass and volunteers and re-sowing in a month or so time to make a better job of it?

who would you ask ?
How's this looking today?

Re-drilling or sharpening the mower blades?

Got some AB 15 to drill this time after wheat on heavy black grass land, would those that are now experienced at growing it recommend a mix with grass in and where’s the best place to order the seed from, thanks

100% . You need grass to grow where the legumes don’t otherwise you’ll get BG. Got a neighbour who regrets the legume only mix cos he had large amounts of BG where the legumes were slow or thin.

Definitely with grass, especially if it’s your first time sowing AB15. You can get seed from all major seed merchants or online via Boston Seeds.
