Ewe feed 18% or 20%

Hi

Basically I can’t get many companies to deliver to me as I don’t have anything to unload pallets with.
So my feed options are limited. Heygates I can get but not the super ewe which is bulk only.
That leaves me with there flockmaster which the ingredients looked bottom of the range or get there 20% premier ewe nuts which seems high as only scanned at 170% I could mix sb pellets with it to lower protein or feed less.
What does everyone recommend, lambing end of January. Ewes on average hay. Haven’t really got any grass left.

If your ordering by the pallet just say youv something to unload with and unload by hand .... the savings on having bulk over small numbers is worth throwing a few bags about

Can you find a supplier who will blow 5t of whatever feed into a store or bin?

I'm lucky .... great outfit down here on Worcs border . Deliver locally 1t of a really top-spec nut/roll hand-ball .... Not cheap , but totally in line on price for feed quality v another quality ration that I used for 3 years ...... There's surely a decent outfit out there , if you dig about a bit !?? And with my lot , I can even talk to / e-mail Guy who owns and runs it .......

If you knew the day and morning/afternoon the delivery was coming, would a neighbour not lend/help with unloading?

I get the problem - I had a pallet of buckets delivered here last week. The driver phoned ahead and was thankful when I said I could unload it. The previous 5 drops were all hand unloaded and he was sick...

I did think it strange a courier company delivering pallets couldn't unload themselves. I thought they all had to have pallet trolleys and lowering deck at the rear?

What is the spec like on the heygates 18%rolls? Looks in between the other two. Did a blind test with 20% cake in college and the ewes lost too much off their backs too quick. 18 plenty for most needs

Agree 20% they'll just skitter condition out their back end...

I don't believe 18% is needed, either. This will be our 4yh lambing feeding 16% and the ewes do just as well

if you can back up with a trailer so you are loading on the same level it doesn't take many minutes to restack a pallet but if you have somewhere with a concrete floor then delivery with a tail lift does the job, had 2 pallets of wood pellets off a tail lift lorry yesterday.

I have fed the Heygates 20% nut in the past (when I was in Glos), and it is a good quality feed. It’s not just about the headline CP figure, but what makes up that protein. Iirc it had quite a high level of soya and is a good ME level. @JoEwe , you could do a lot worse than feed that ration, but at a lower level than you might for some cheaper/lower quality rations.

How much feed do you get through in a year? Bags will be costing £30-40/t extra compared to bulk. If you are using 4-5t+ and can find somewhere to blow it, you will save a good bit (enough to pay for a bin in a few years?) and open up other supplier options.

Don’t think that bulk blowing will pay for itself for a 4t/yr person. Bin will cost £500 minimum and save ~£20 over 1t tote bags.

My advice - get a shed with a concrete floor and buy totes on pallets, delivered by tail lift lorry and pallet trolley.

£40/t difference between bags and bulk usually.
3 years the bin has paid for itself doing 4t/year?
