Ewe in lamb?

Aye up,

I think I probably know the answer to this question, but is there any way of reliably telling if a ewe is in lamb or not without scanning?

We have three ewes I think are empty. I could do with them gone if they are empty, but I don’t expect the scan man to visit for 3 and it’s about a 2-3 hour job if I take them to him. Plus, I wouldn’t blame him for not wanting to see us with covid.

Any idea?

Cheers, Pete.

Would have thought you would be able to feel something from the outside that close too I can do it on cows from about 6 months push your hand in on the side in and out like get it moving then change your bounce and you should feel something hard that’s the baby would imagine you need by fairly gentle with a ewe in comparison wouldn’t want to do any harm if she was in lamb

Get her on her side and give some sharp pokes underneath with heel of your hand as if you were trying to lift her up to see if you can feel anything. Will not have much of a bag with 6 weeks to go but you could always wait 4 weeks as cull prices are good.
