Tim, how does the online bidding actually work? Do you need to be sitting in front of the screen as that lot is sold to bid?

This is a first for us at Exlana but as i understand it to bid you have to
1) register on the @SellMyLivestock website well before the sale (this week ideally)
2) Study the form /videos & make your selections
3) Grab a beer
4) Bid online in real time as the auction is happening ---the auctioneer will ''go slow ''and take bids from the floor and online---
5) Wait for delivery if you have a successful bid

Bidding updates should appear on the screen in front of you as they are made

If you have very poor internet connections you can arrange to bid on the phone or leave a bid with one of the team ?

I am interested to see how well it works ---it should certainly make buying easier for those that are further afield

quite common in the states, sitting in front of a screen, watching the 'lots as you bid, 2 problems, first, poor internet speed, second, poor old auctioneers, will have to learn a different 'banter' to keep momentum up. Certain, as time progresses, this will become more 'normal'. Trading standards, ministry and s/mkts want to see the 'end' of livestock mkts, online, would be the only method, of keeping an 'open' price.

Ref number 3: I like your thinking, loosen the punter' inhibitions! I was told of a farmer from Northumberland that used to sell tups from home. Prospective customers were brought in to the house for a couple of liveners beforehand. Said farmer also kept fancy fowl, which were in a run near the house. If the punters were not effusive in their praise of said poultry on the way out to view tups, a couple more drams from the hip flask were administered!

I hope for your sake that it works better than the current clunky auction SML are trying to run for high index Charollais rams.

Unless SML change their system quickly, I would advise anyone interested in next week's sale to get the registration sorted well in advance, which is required even if you just want to watch the bidding.

I just registered with @SellMyLivestock to buy and was able to bid on the Charollais sale within a few minutes? All seemed fairly smooth to me?

I’ve been registered with them for years, but had to re-register as a bidder, then verify my identity by scanning a copy of ID (drivers licence, utility bill, etc), then wait for someone to check & approve.

They have promised to address this, but it would still be worthwhile any of your prospective bidders (& observers) to forward plan and allow time for the registration process.

You have to re-register as a bidder ---i didn't have to verify my identity and approval took less than 5 mins
It's obvious that you just look a bit dodgy compared with me

I had the same problem for that sale. Took 48 hours before I was registered to view bidding.

Have any actually sold as it doesn't appear any have?

yes, that was my point about planning in advance for Tim’s sale.

(2 ram lambs sold when I looked earlier, but here’s not the place to discuss:))

03643---great ram , high growth values with 44 lambs on the ground
And he's spotted ---what more could you want?

''Genetics not cosmetics''

You could be on to something. When all the pony paddock grazers get fed up with shearing their Dutch Spotted pets, you could be straight in with a shedding version. Ahead of the game again, with the next next big thing. (y)

Good thinking but one of my press releases on behalf of the maternal sheep group ended up in 'Horse and Hound' and we weren't knocked down in the rush from the pony club set! Although maybe Tim's emphasis on nice colours will help in that market space :ROFLMAO:
