f**k Up Fortnight

f**k didn't it rain all afternoon! The roads are rivers round here. It did let up about 7pm. Sat down in front of the TV after checking them at 7 and passed out until 11! Woke up to the wife telling me she was going to bed and I should go and check the ewes. Had a yearling lambing so gave her an hour or so. Pulled an absolute monster of a lamb out of her so I could go home to bed! Got 3 left singles left!!! And now I'm wide awake because of my 4hr power nap earlier on.
In a spot of good news a neighbour asked me to shove a few ewes and lambs on a little patch of theirs. It's not much but there's a lot of clean grass on it.

If there is one thing that really pisses me off with indoor lambing is ewes laying on lambs in pens theres bloody stupid
We are bunged up to hell with the wether and ewes lambing very quick so haven’t manage to empy the adopters, 2 massive 3 day old lambs where sat on last night in them, I’m to the point of saying just send them out with one and forget the bloody things.

One of the vet students tried to say we should tube it, no I said it’s cold and watery , heat lamp first , she is good and keen but google isn’t always the answer, every little thing she googles , I think she must have found an American small holders site that said tube it
I tried to be polite and said no , we will warm it first , bugger died anyway 😖 The ones I jabbed/ gave orally are looking brighter
Syringe some warm soapy water up their bum too

I sometimes think it’s not worth the time and effort sometimes trying to foster on lambs, if it doesn’t work straightaway such as a wet foster, don’t bother. Often you think they’ve taken them when in a pen but when they go out among a lot of other sheep the bond isn’t there and they get lost off. Then you’ve got a 7 to 10 day lamb to try and learn to drink from a teat.

Perhaps better putting more effort into an efficient pet rearing system sometimes

i jab em and down throat also give live yoghurt, seems to do ok not sure if yoghurt helps but it dosent do any harm

The idea of giving live yoghurt is to introduce live, beneficial bacteria to the gut. If you give a squirt of antibiotics at the same time, you might as well just give them some sour milk. You’ve killed all those good bacteria, along with the bad.

I was reading an old thread about watery mouth , “featuring Bovine”
It was shall we say decisive 😂

meanwhile.. the jabbed or drenched lambs are up and bright this morning
It’s chaos in here already , as soon as I pen a new ewe/ lamb , another appears

Good start to the day. Spotted One of the last 11 ewe to go just started. Grabbed her an and got in a pen to deliver the scanned single and then wet fostered on last triplet lamb.

She seems happy enough.

Triplet mum had been doing them ok but better for all now.

10 ewes left, only had 3 lamb in last week…so long tail.

I'm maybe 24 hours max, they either want it or they don't. Don't like seeing a lamb having to fight for it. We haven't used the adapter for years, just prolongs the inevitable black cable tie.

😂Phone typed Adapter, if only!
