Genuine question?

I've got a lamb with a broken front leg. Just above the knee joint. Clean break. About a week old. Nice lamb. I kept two doubles in over the old snap last week. Put them in the same pen 12 foot square thinking they'll be fine. Walked in and found him stretched out thinking wtf. He's got a splint with vet wrap atm but I don't fancy his chances.
I had a pet lamb once with it below the knee and surprisingly fixed it.

Just wondering what you guys do in this situation?
Thanks.

Never fixed one above the knee/hock joints. Have done loads below that, very easy too set and splint.

Plaster of Paris wrap, cloth bandage first

Cloth on first then a small splint then big bale tape wrapped round, that will be adequate, they usually mend well on a young lamb.

Ideally a two person job. Give anti-inflamatory. When it knits, there'll be a callus, and could be a slightly shorter leg. It's not as difficult as a break above the elbow, but keep an eye out for him in case of rubs or wounds.

Roll of cotton wool and bandage is bloody cheap. Buy the stuff and do it right. Found this one broken just above the ankle a week past on Saturday. Had it changed twice since and it's fusing nicely

Just make sure and don't put it on too tight or you'll cut off the circulation!

Nothing heals better than a young lambs leg, they would almost heal just left.

They do! Had one break high up on rear leg a few years ago, left it be with mum and it either died/disappeared or healed fine because I couldn't ever pick it out

That one in pic wouldn't heal itself - it's foot was at 90° when I found it 🤢

Something new every year. Had a triplet lamb overnight 2 weeks ago in the shed. Penned her up but still no milk by day 2 even though in good condition. Most hated sheep ( until the next one). Fostered 2 lambs the other is a pet. Put her out with the red mark of death.
Today went to check them and she is standing with 3 new lambs just born :scratchhead: :scratchhead:. So the red mark sprayed blue now and she is my favourite sheep. Until she probably lies on one tonight.
Of course, there is a triplet ewe running in the shed which had 3 lambs 2 weeks ago then hid away. Red spray coming her way now.

I have a ewe running in the twins with big red P.B. on her side...

P.B. stands for Pinching Ba5tard!!

She tried stealing off of 3 or 4 ewes before she finally lambed herself and settled down

Had one like that last year, I felt like shooting her she was such a bloody nuisance... Brought her in the shed in the end for a few days until she lambed...

I had one with a uterine prolapse this morning, 3 days after she lambed, with the whole lot inside out.
Got her back to the yard, dangled from the pallet forks so gravity would help, and quietly slipped the whole lot back in and inverted nicely. Very pleased with myself, I stitched her up while she was hanging quietly, gave her a shot of Metacam and another of antibiotic, and gently lowered her to the ground.👍

As soon as she laid down, she took a sudden gasp and keeled over dead. Feckin’ sheep.🤐
Pressure on the hearth probably caused it.

I have a roll of ‘proper stuff’ in the cupboard, but still first reach for a bit of plastic (cut from the side of a bottle), wrapped round with silage tape. It’s always worked as well, at a fraction of the cost, as the ‘proper’ stuff from the vets ime.

We have the pen of shame. Any thieves get pulled out and put in solitary on the other side of the yard.
On another note, I’m just tubing a couple of small lambs on triplets watching 2 Cheviot mules trying too fight through a wooden hurdle… good job it’s a strong hurdle! 😂 females eh??
