f**k Up Fortnight

Just discovered this thread, but would have found it entertaining when my own f*$k up fortnight was punctuated by several badger attacks, one suicide by drowning, 3 cases of twin lamb due to mis-scanning, and a series of dopy calves taking up my time when I should have been looking at my ewes. That said, once it got started, lambing went pretty well, except for a hurt back halfway through (probably courtesy of all those dopy calves that I was bent double trying to get to feed!). I will concede that I'm only a small-time sheep farmer compared to most on here, so what I consider to be a good or bad run is wee buns to some, but I only started keeping them 4 years ago and I've a long way to go yet!

You jest i know ,
but there's a serious point there somewhere as well, "its not a competition "
Agree that’s why I was asking what staff others have. To be honest it’s been a relatively easy lambing because of the weather makes everything easier when it’s good. But still a hell of a lot of work to get round as well as putting in 40 acres of spring barley I’m absolutely knackered.
makes you question why we do it at times can’t beat the job when it’s going well but just imagine the staff the council would have on the job if they run a farm

Just our of interest how many ewes and cows are people calving and how many people do you have on the job this time of year, lambing 1600 ewes and calving 40. just myself and my father who doesn’t/can’t do as much as he used to, had vet lambing students for first time last year nice people but not a lot of help so didn’t have any this year.

550 ewes and approx 150 ewe lambs. Just the Mrs and 3 of her dogs. I'll go down to help mark lambs first week of June.

90 cows and 20 (give or take) heifers
140 ewes - hoping to build this to around 300 over the next 3 years.
It's a bollox lambing and calving at the same time, but at least when you're getting up for one, you're getting up for the other.

Me and my dad who's intending to retire after this year - but I can't imagine he'll "retire" in the traditional sense of the word.

Bit of a shuffle required with these. Was 1 head and 1 leg from one lamb and both legs from the other. But she got there in the end.

Ewe has been cull marked.
