I had a young lad, 15 years old, help out for a couple days at shearing.

Hes not from a farming background, Dad's a vet, but hes worked on couple local farms for a few years and knows whats what. He is also desperate to farm......(sheep.....poor lad)....in the future.

He said he did not want paying, wanted the experience, but he earnt a decent days pay for long days and putting the effort in.

He helped gather the ewes, and did all the wool handling.

I did feed and water him but I feel he should get some financial reward as well.

Whats a fair £ for him?

ha ha ,but seriously how much do folks think the take home pay of the average ( if there is such a thing) farmer be paying himself/hour
If you include the non cash items like not paying domestic rent or mortgage, council tax, commercial vehicle (pickup), phone, fuel, heat and light, farm house repairs etc all through the books, then it’s certainly a lot more than we kid ourselves we ‘take home’ in cash drawings.

£50 a day for the lad would go a long way to building up some goodwill and future work opportunities, and he sounds like he’s a good lad to have around.

Give him the value in Apple or Berkshire Hathaway shares, and in 20 years he won’t have to think about sheep.

I'm well impressed, how come you're getting away with putting the council tax through the books twice?!!
