Farm Insurance

Having been with the NFU mutual for years we have jumped to Lockton Farm Insurance , hadn't heard of them before though it was pointed out to me at the time of quoting they are the worlds largest privately owned insurance brokers and are bigger that the NFUM .
Really competitive prices and a no brainer for us to switch the farm and and fleet for better service also

I’d advise anyone except Farmers and Mercantile.
I found out the hard way why their insurance is cheap.
I used to hate NFU but I can’t praise their insurance enough.
Maybe because they know I shop around they are always spot on with price good job they don’t realise I’d still go with them if they were double the price and my cover is over 10k a year.

No company is perfect - I have had issues with F&M too, as well as several others. A paperwork error meant the police pulled me over for thinking my vehicle was not insured...and the F&M offices were closed on a weekend for me to be able to sort it out. I was less than amused!

Insurance can be difficult at times as there are many links in the chain. Remember that F&M are a broker, and the insurance is not "their" product. They can sell you a number of products at various price points. What they should be able to offer though is a service on top of that insurance. This is the mark of a good broker - one that does the leg work for you.

When things go wrong and you need to claim on the insurance....the most crucial link in the chain is the firm of loss adjuster used. They can make a claim a headache or a smooth process. How many know who their insurance company would use?

I agree some brokers do go that extra mile for their customers compared to others and I would like to think that we are one of those brokers. We have access to several Farm Insurers products and are able to quote for the Farm and Business covers and a wide range of Farm and Agricultural Vehicles - please let me know if you would like me to review your cover, I would be glad to.

On that topic Gaz...how involved would you (PW) be in the event of a claim? Many brokers send you a claim form and pass you on to someone else entirely. Not an issue if they are good, but I guess what I'm saying is the chap that quotes you may be good to get on with, but he isn't the man holding the purse strings on a claim. I'd rather a miserable broker and a cracking loss adjuster - the issue is you never meet the loss adjuster until you're already in a hole. A lot of that can be luck of the draw with personality, but some is also about the culture of the LA firm. - whether they act purely for the underwriter trying to reduce claims, or for all parties to provide a service that satisfies all.

Hi Steevo, a very valid point you have made as brokers are very different indeed. We ourselves handle a claim from start to finish, reporting in to insurers, corresponding with clients and all parties involved until settlement and our priority is that our client is happy and content with their payout or repairs etc... We have an "in house" Claims Manager dedicated to looking after the claim "cradle to grave" so to speak. I agree though that making sure you have the resource and tools to do the job if need be is very important and is sometimes forgotten about in favour of cost. We offer service as well as value for money whenever we can I am proud to say
