Quite a few good apps, I use 'GPS fields area measure' on android which handles areas and distances and has a good GPS accuracy too.View attachment 568054

You would definitely be able to coerce cattle to come to water, but for real high-impact grazing you'd be better to fence them into tight squares/between two 'walking fences etc. I think they would otherwise just bugger off and lie down!!

Het vee uitsteken!

I think Ant @TelesnaAg Is going to do the same sort of thing this year (y)

I just noticed your location - you're nearly as far south of us as you are east !!!
we're about 31 S 150 E

Aye, bit chilly doon here.. (y) still shorts weather - just Kaiwaka over the top..
I don't do well in the heat, rapidly ending up in my kegs in a water trough. 25° is plenty.
Going for a swim in the Owaka river on Wednesday for the cameras, to show we farmers aren't all environmental terrorists who pollute our rivers..
Unlike the monsanto fudgewombles who say "it's safe enough to drink"- we're going to swim in and drink our river. Local MP is going to be there for the cameras.. 11° forecast so it'll be grand. (y)

Kiwi pete, swimming in a river at 11 degrees. Your effing mad.

I will not be full cell grazing next year, following one hope to be, in winter will have to manage ground so may be on 3-4 day shifts

My app of choice is glenfiddich...with coke and ice....i can do anything with it.

If you want grass fed finish cattle you buy red devon Roy, your in perfect area for accessing stock for that breed.

Mobile water could be issue in summer due to water temp, be very mindful of this...praire maggots may be a better choice.

I dont give a fat flying f*ck what me neighbours think, and i mean not a fat rats flying double f*ck. they are all old and will be dead soon, ill be still here. I am very excited about holistic farming...its interesting and fascinating...

I like my location for population density, its about right, far enough away from bullsh*t of the city.

I live in a free society here, i go to mcdonalds and theres bacon on the burger, we celebrate xmas, in fact we celebrate anything....in the city they are stopping australia day, some areas no bacon coz someone dont like it, kids cant say xmas coz someone offend, ...my response to all this is GO F*UCK YOURSELF.

My aim in farming is to be happy, thats it...and this will involve carving out a living with next to no chem and natural fert, one bacause i feel its better for me and my planet, two when things go prar shaped in the world my farming business will survive...you shut the south china sea...this country is screwed...i am aiming to have some exposure to export but also a big focus on feeding melbourne...i will not prejiduce there money...regardless of religion...

My new shed goes up wednesday....man i will be so happy when i shift in...goodbye to working in the rain all the time....ive done my hard yards.

Bottoms up yall

I don't mind this one Ant. Although not with coke :eek::inpain:
What's wrong with your water?

Congratulations in order for the impending erection, will drink to that (y)

To be fair... things are warming up now. Almost feels like spring - lambs on the footy ground bleating, soil up to about 4 degrees so things are ticking.
River won't be too bad, about time farmers got on social media and make a statement that we'll drink the water where it leaves our farms.....instead of taking a kick and then moaning that it hurt like the rest do :banghead::banghead::banghead:

KP i will look out for that one when next in the big smoke...

We need an actual farming body that actually represents us....ours over here are close on invisible, unless your in the boys club they probably think they are everywhere...

Go into a city and ask who is the head of the NFF in oz...i dont even lnow who the head is...they are truly lost in a bygone era...and the resluts speak for themsleves.

Yes, it works well for a few empty cows on a quiet bit of roadside!! But I'd allow at least 50 litres per head if that big yellow orb came out .
275kg beef calves inside are only averaging 17 l. per day so far, in our cool climate.
I think Roy mentioned 120 ac. which might handle say 80-90 big cattle? So there's 5m3 of water per day.
Ah yeah, water . . .
Actually, the 120 I mentioned was hectares & that was some other grazing country I currently lease out.

The cropping Land does present some difficulties with water for stock . . .
I crop about 800ha ( 2000ac ), average rotation size is 200ha, average field size is 100ha so average length is 1 km. In reality, blocks vary from about 600m - 1.6km, so moving troughs / tanks does mean a lot of travelling unless I use sacrificial laneways, but then I'm losing the benefits of manure / urine where I want it . . .
Yes, easily 50 l / head I'd say

Maybe in the short term I aim for lower density & less frequent moves ?

I never said it was easy

5,000l/day for 90 days is 450,000l. That's a hell of a lot of water!

Haha yeah, Booloocooroo's a good one. That's at Curlewis, only about 6 or 7 km from my place
Have you been around here ?
Armidale is only about 2 hrs from here, have junior rugby finals there next week ( we are in the same rugby zone ). Different environment / climate to here though.

As to my heritage, well, my great great grandfather came out in the early - mid 1800's, my mother came from Scotland in the late 1959's, my family have been around this area since 1901
