It's completely safe, They said soMy thoughts are best kept to myself... but hey, at least it's a convenient way to ensure we don't need to "feed a rapidly increasing world population"
Its a mystery story. The mystery is ‘who dunnit? Not very long but entertaining. I read it as a teenager and never forgot it. I have always been wary of the books the winners write since then. I just watched the video you posted. It says the same thing.I have not. Will try to fit it in with all the other books this thread has forced me to buy! Or you could give me the abridged version?!
Yes, she calved right there. Picking up two more calves for her today.Did she calve outside ?
How many fosters are you putting on her ?
Same temp. as hereLike the Bahamas here today!

Depends on prices and time of year really.Sweet
Do you have any particular calves you source for your cows? Or particular farms/systems you go for?
Just being nosey as (hopefully) we'll be doing similar with our girls in future, and you are smart
I planned to calve them late as my main calf source is dairy x beef, and most of the early beef calves have dibs on them... but by mid October you can be a little bit more selective.Depends on prices and time of year really.
I always prefer beef calves but have a couple dairies that cross with beef if prices are too high or someone is calving outside of calving season. I try hard not to get auction calves unless they’re a really good deal. Don’t see a point in paying high prices for something so likely to die.
Right now calving season is just getting into full swing so fair amount of calves around.
Same temp. as here
Soak it up while it lasts, in some places a thaw out midwinter is a bad thing but I doubt you look at the gift horse's tonsils too hardWas thinking after, potentially and realistically there could be a minus in front of that figure here at this time of year, near coldest time in northern hemisphere.
Don’t think it will last.
The boss is now home.
Happy times ahead
I’ve deliberatley stayed away from Petes holistic thread this week to save up some night time reading.

My goal isn’t replacements so I don’t mind if they aren’t the better calves. As long as they gain. In dairy calves I don’t care if they come from good milking lines, I want bulk, so it’s irrelevant to me if the cow is a lower producer.I planned to calve them late as my main calf source is dairy x beef, and most of the early beef calves have dibs on them... but by mid October you can be a little bit more selective.
Good call on the auction calves, I guess it's somewhat similar to the dairy folk, they don't breed the best cows in the herd with beef but at least you know their system - whether they have their fingers plugging leaks or not.
You don't get that buying at auction, nor anyones 'better calves'.
I am hoping my mate has lots of shorthorn/friesian heifers this coming spring I like them for here.
Even a fat dairy cow doesn’t compete with a beef breedLower producing dairy cows tend to be fat pigs that put it on their backs anyway
