Great to see this thread active again Carl, this and the old BFF one where personal favorites please keep us updated on the activities when you can especially on those big cats.
only knew Roly from his posts but his passion for tracks was quite evident Im sure he would be proud to see his engineering work carrying on.

Metal tracks with a scraper behind it will always be my favourite to run, maintain or pilot, and thankyou a bit part of what pushes me forward is dad

We had to diversify ABIT I'm thankful I managed to start that process with GPS dozers and 2 adts while dad was still here, I said to dad one day getting close to the end "don't worry about this place dad I will look after it" he said "I'm not worried in the slightest, I'm proud of you and know you will do it"
Something I will take to my grave that is, he was bloody hard on me and rightly so in preparing me for what I'm doing now and to carry on where he left off :)

I got alot more heavily involved in 2006 when me and dad became partners and the plant side started as a separate limited company to the farm, but dad was still very much in charge

But in 2011 it was a Sunday I was out ploughing, and got a call from mum saying dad's not right, so I flew down to the office to find dad In his chair having a stroke :-(

That moment was like a trigger in my mind, dad would never let go it was who he was but I knew I had to take some of the burden and worry off his shoulders so I forced my way into running the workshop and dealing with bloody drivers which frankly is the hardest part of the job, the rest is history.

He got some retirement time for himself and I had 5 years of running it but having dad there as a partner, that's what I miss the most going in the office every morning and every night talking to dad about what repairs were doing, drivers and new plans for equipment to buy next

Loads of people have been in the same situation Carl it you have to run the business in your own way bringing forward new tech as you see fit remember your dad for who he was he he was when he was fit and well and the skills and values you learned from him over the years.
Reminiscing as you said in an earlier post about the quad tracks and especially thinking what he would have said good and bad about modern ways and machines is great and something we should all do more often.
im sure you are doing a great job.

looking good ,

I keep driving past to check the cattle and hoping to catch a glimpse of the quadtrack working. you'll blend in with your to near neighbours with that now !!

Got 2.5 hours in yesterday before a leak emptied the hydraulic tank ! Waiting for some oil it's a special oil I don't have in stock, managed all straight work and half the gores of the 25 acre though in 2.5 hours :) lol

Nothing too special in those tractors Carl. Case will tell you different, but a good quality transmission oil, 10w/30 grade meeting case MS1209 / 1210, or CNH Mat 3525 is all that's required.

Thought I'd better drop in with a little update
Bought a new to me combine last year, nh cr980 absolute beast of a machine, easily does more than the 2 old 8070s on its own 😁😁
