I know what he meant....I've sent plenty of cattle to the abattoir and never known one die due to the fact they were going there...

I think he meant they died because they got to the abattoir not on their way there.

Thanks for the warning. Todays job was to crimp and mix a load of grub. I'll have to dig out the remaining old crop.

Im sure you can feed crimp next day .i used to with hundreds if cattle

What is barley poisoning?
I would understand if it had got bloat but the kidney failure?
The vet didn't seem to think it was related but then Comunication isn't all it could be.
It was 1 out of 40 odd, some 2 or 3 weeks ago now, so hopefully I can carry on. 6 more have died since but I think that was more to do with going to the abbatoir

I lost 5 with 10 going down . If your cattle got into your grainstore and self fed on it you would be lucky if you didnt lose the lot . Same as if you leave the add lib hoppers empty for a day .you dont get this half so bad if you crimp it

Crimping and freding new crop straight away is ok then. The barley in question was cut yesterday

I used to leave 10 out of the main clamp and feed the same day .but i have scientific proof that this is ok

Been feeding ad-lib Barley to Holstein Friesian Bulls for years and always made a useful profit.
Now my abattoir has a dislike for bulls i feeding ad-lib to steers on a "barley-bull" system and its still leaving a useful margin.
