The parked tractors blocked wide areas of the city today before parking in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Others, pictured, parked in front of the Bundestag, the German parliament building. The front placard reads 'together instead of against each other' and the second from right reads 'good local food - fair prices'

  • People can be seen speaking with a farmer driving his tractor near Brandenburg Gate earlier today

Pity the struggling farmers.

It would be like people standing outside Fortnum and Mason with shopping bags full, protesting the high price of food.
i hate this attitude

when did you last seen anybody in any other industry turn up in boned m reg peugeot 405.
never, everybody else expects something decent but we arent allowed to try to use technology to move our businesses forward as it clearly demonstrates profiteering

And your point is......?

Do you know anything about the nature of a farmers business by the tractor he uses? (Not owns because it’s probably on finance).

Perhaps he/she is a successful farm business owner that contributes taxes/employs someone and is pee’d off at becoming the global scapegoat for western environmental guilt?

Would you have more respect for them if they turned up in beat up 20 yr old wrecks?

Agree with your point, although there are much cheaper alternative tractors which are made in Germany and do the same job, but I agree that long term ownership costs probably not considerably different. But I guess my point, although slightly tongue in cheek, is that you'd take a dim view of say, a union strike by teachers where they all rocked up in Audis - sure they can drive what they like, but there are cheaper cars that do the same job and that would help their cashflow

point taken

however the slight difference is the tractor is a tool of the trade which could effect output, the audi has no impact on the kids education, merely an object of desire. thats why if anybody had mentioned farmers in range rovers going shooting i would absolutely agree its not a good way to portray yourself

My point is that the German anti-anti-glyphosate protest turned out 10,000 farmers with 5,000 tractors.

Some were red, some were blue and, as it happens, there were at least three shades of green.

But how many thousands, of whatever colour, would ever bother to turn up in Whitehall?

:angelic::angelic:

Cant comment on Whitehall but at this side of the water, a lot of Dublin city centre traffic has been brought to a standstill by tractors. They moved in yesterday and I say fair play to them.
The Dublin tractors aren’t protesting about glyphosate, more so about beef prices in this case.

Here it’s the result of the general frustration amongst farmers who feel they are being thrown under the climate change bus and that rural Ireland is being forgotten by government.

Not sure on the authenticity, but I got told today that German farmers get up to 50% tax incentive to buy German made machinery. Good for them.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
