Finishing friesion steers

Just asking as anybody finished friesion steers at 22 months old ? If so how and too what success?

Just give them plenty of barley ad lib and they fatten no bother, if they have got the frame ready to put meat onto 100 days should do it

Start early and push hard as long as they haven’t had any issues you should be ok you could feed a maize based tmr to cheapen the ration as they will eat some grub ad-lib, they have hollow legs mind.

Thank you I have access to a lot of spuds , I was thinking of supplementing the barley and oats with this to give the starch element to the diet do you think this is a good idea ?

Yes get a nutritionist to make sure things balance but sounds like a good idea.

I fatten all mine. They are outside for one season and then pushed hard to finish. Used to put some out for a 2nd season but found there growth rates fell back so don't bother now. (Weigh scales are a great management tool) Adlib hoppers to finish. Diet ingredients consist of barley, Maxammon barley, Disstillers grains and or Rapemeal and are mixed at different rates depending what stage they are at. along with straw or silage.
