Propper car
Once a favourite tow car long long before crew cabs became fashionable.

If your feeling sporty you could try mark 2 escort rally car fitted with roll cage anti lag tractive gearbox cheap vintage insurance no car testing but I suppose it is not every one cup of teaBit of a tenuous link to the machinery section!
My daughter will soon start driving and will be needing a first car. Her searches on line suggest that her expectations and mine are somewhat different!
The insurance is a bigger issue than the type of car as far as I'm concerned. What cars have you found to be reasonable to insure for young drivers?

My nephew is 17 next month. He is having my mothers Volvo C30 1.6 petrol. My Sister seems to have got what I thought was a favourable deal on the insurance. Send me PM if you want more detail.

In the same boat here as OP looking for under 1.4 to keep insurance down, trouble is Son is 6’5 and is struggling with getting his knees under the steering wheel. Tried a Toyota Yaris at the weekend and was quite impressed with how nippy it was, Seat also goes down as well as back and had more legroom than a Ford focus
Some very cool Saab about. Nice Carlsson ones too. The 9-X was pretty as but the 95 with turbocharged V6 was mental.
