Hi

I am looking for advice on a new or used topper as my vortex 9 ft rotary topper comitted suicide Size wise 2.8 or 2.6 metre range . I have a 90 hp tor to power it . I would mostly be using it for grass/docs and thistles. I have used flail and rotary and think the flail does a better job.

I can do an ex-display Talex 2.8m flail mower with sideshift and whale-tail flails for £2,750 + VAT £3,100 + VAT RRP for a new one with rear wheels)

Twose Tornado here though they're very similar machines across the board mostly.Go for the widest you can since it can be a slow job.Our old Case 5120 was a pretty gutless beast but would handle the 10ft topper ok so 90hp should be alright..

For grass, docks and thistles I would personally go for a bladed topper for a few reasons: cleaner cut so better regrowth of grass. If you get the right one it will create lift with the blade to reduce wheelings and cut bent over nettles etc. much faster work rate with less fuel burnt in the process.

I have a flail as I also have to bash brambles, scrub etc and don't look forwards to topping scrappy grass as its slow and untidy but I couldn't afford two machines.

Don't know if that helps.
