Zero till fields dont seem to have capacity to hold much rain, this is causing run off big time and lack of ditch maintenance is a major problem no one around here does`nt know how to clear the problem areas, its called a spade and drain rods.

A very different story on our fields the zero till fields are considerably drier and will travel weeks if not months sooner than stuff that's been moved. We are fully drained though and do regular ditching, shame the neighbours don't though as it backs up all around us

Yep, Im know what you mean... we have a neighbour down stream of a main ditch who was/is a shocker, but nowadays HIS neighbour got so fed up, he cleans the ditches out for the bad 'un!

We have one ditch I am supposed to maintain, but have a new neighbour who has developed the site, and left no room for the digger without a LOT of clearing up of crap and junk.... I know the Council will be on my back before long, as the ditch also takes a lot of road water... which is a good justification for a broad hint to the neighbour ;)

These photos from Biblins Bridge (Symonds Yat) show just how much water we’ve had come downstream through

No till fields have coped noticeably better here, much higher infiltration rates and drain runnIng clear water

everything has a limit though, it’s seriously wet around here now and a lot of flooding where rivers have broken banks, haven’t been able to get kids to school for 2 days, even the A38 has been closed for. 2 days, can’t recall that evert happening before

Zero till fields have not had the run off seen on cultivated fields or the soil erosion. Cultivating is like applying an impervious layer of rendering this year. Seals the surface and off it runs. The undisturbed stuff is much more sponge-like.

This is exactly my experience.

Disturb the surface and the natural drainage channels are lost.

Ploughing masks this as the less permeable layer is 6” down covered with soil.
